The second call for contributions for the 2nd World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress (2WSFC), which will be held in Mérida, Mexico on 21-25 September, 2014 is now closed.
The first Congress held in 2010 in Bangkok was focused on ‘Issues and Solutions’. For the 2WSFC, given the advancement in research and enhanced policy interests on small-scale fisheries, we can now concentrate on exploring ‘OPTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES’ through seven distinct themes.
Submissions – CLOSED
Those interested in presenting their work are welcome to submit either individual papers or sessions. Selected papers and sessions will be presented as part of concurrent sessions. The deadline for submission of individual papers and sessions is March 31, 2014. Notifications for accepted papers and sessions will be sent out by April 15, 2014. Extended abstracts will be required by July 15, 2014, for inclusion in the Congress Proceedings.
Registration will be opened on April 1, 2014. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.
Fishers and community participation
We encourage fishers and community members to participate in the Congress. There will be a special plenary session for fishers to share knowledge and idea, as well as an opportunity to interact with other fishers from around the world during the field excursion. Although the official language of the conference is English, we will provide you with ‘whisperers’ to help you follow the presentations and the discussion. For more information click here. You can also contacts us at email@example.com if you are interested in attending.
Workshop 1: Transdisciplinary training and capacity development: Building local capacity for research and governance requires thoughtful consideration and planning about needs and mechanisms to develop training program and sustain the built capacity. Innovative thinking like those promoted in transdisciplinary research would be explored in the congress. Anyone with ideas and experience on this topic are invited to participate in this workshop.
Workshop 2: Students forum: Focused around the seven 2WSFC themes, this workshop will be designed and organized by students.
We look forward to receiving your contribution and to welcoming you to 2WSFC in Merida in September 2014.
